2017 SIDNEY DAYS PARADE APPLICATION

SIDNEY DAYS 2017 EVENT SCHEDULE

Friday, June 30
June 30 in Sidney is the opening of “Sidney Days” and the community’s big pre-celebration Canada Day. Provided, is the full listing of events for the day in Beacon Park:

“To Canada with Love” Travelling Pavilion
Photographer, Tim Van Horn has created the “Canadian Mosaic Project” which is taking him across Canada collecting stories and images of the people who make up this great country. The Pavilion will be at the Mary Winspear Centre and will include an opportunity for local residents have their photo taken, tell their story and become part of the biggest photo album ever created. Time: TBD

Thrifty Foods Picnic in the Park
Bring a blanket down to Beacon Park for an afternoon picnic provided by Thrifty Foods and served up by members of the Rotary Club of Sidney by the Sea.  The picnic is by a suggested minimum $5.00 donation with all proceeds to Sidney Elementary School. Time: 3 to 6pm

Opening Ceremonies
A grand entrance by Colour Parties, opening by the Town Crier, speeches and award presentations to honoured citizens. 7pm

Cultural Performance
Victoria Filipino Canadian Dancers, Viva Mexico! Folk Dancers, West Coast REACH. 8pm

Performance on the Pier
A live band will play at the end of Bevan Pier prior to and during the Fireworks Extravaganza. 9:30 to 10:30pm

Sidney Days – July 1 – CANADA DAY

Peninsula Celebrations Society will deliver the traditional celebrations which include the Pancake Breakfast (Sidney Lions), Canada Day Parade at 11:30 am, Mayor & Council community ice cream at Iroquois Park (following the parade), Slegg Build-a-Boat competition (Beacon Park), and Family Fun Fair in Iroquois Park.

Family Fun Fair
Hosted by Peninsula Celebrations Society join for an amazing array of activities and games, dog show, watermelon eating contest, food vendors, free icecream from Sidney Council & more! 12:30 to 4pm at Iroquois Park

Family Fun Fair (Kids games: life size Jenga, selfie frame, golf putting, beanbag u-launcher, hamster balls by Games2U, face painting by Susie Sunshine, balloon creations, magic, inflatable obstacle course, carnival games, concession & beverages, with entertainment by Old Black Rum)
12:30 to 4:30 pm at Iroquois Park

Mayor & Council – Free Ice Cream (while supplies last)
1:00 pm at Iroquois Park

Dog Show Contest Sponsored by Sidney Pet Centre & Aquatics
Registration at 1:00 pm – Show from 1:30 to 2:00 pm at Iroquois Park

Watermelon Eating Contest
2:00 pm at Iroquois Park

Slegg Build-a-Boat (building)
Watch as teams construct their boats in Beacon Park from 12 to 4:30pm

Slegg Build-a-Boat Race
Teams launch their boats for a sink or swim race! Launch from Diver’s Point at 4:30pm

Following the Build-a-Boat Race, Sidney’s own 443 Helicopter Squadron will demonstrate an exciting, water rescue from a helicopter.

Sidney Sidewalk Sale
Don’t miss the 2017 Sidney Sidewalk Sale that will bring back the old tradition of street vendors, music and a beer garden making this final wrap up day of Sidney Days a huge celebration! Downtown Sidney from 10am to 4pm

Grand Opening of New Sidney Skatepark
