Celebrate Canada’s birthday at Sidney Days on the Canada Day weekend with activities and entertainment for the whole family. Events over Sidney Days include the opening ceremonies and entertainment, Canada Day parade, The Slegg Build-A-Boat competition, Fun Run, Pancake Breakfast and more…
June 27th
Multiculturalism Day Celebration June 27, 2011 at 2:00 pm: “Celebrate Canada” during the Multiculturalism Day Celebration at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney, BC on June 27, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Sidney Town Crier, Kenny Podmore will open the music and dance with an official Proclamation. The afternoon will end with a traditional English Tea. Cost is $6.95.
June 30th
Community Dinner June 30th at 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. at the Mary Winspear Centre: Come join Sidney in the celebration of Canada Day! The Sidney by the Sea Rotary Club will host a Sidney Days Community Dinner on behalf of Peninsula Celebrations Society events for Sidney Days, on Thursday, June 30th at 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. at the Mary Winspear Centre, 2243 Beacon Avenue. This event is open to all public.
Live Music June 30th at 8pm – 10pm: Pre fireworks entertainment will be provided by popular R&B group, Soul 62, performing for the second time at the Beacon Park Pavilion on the waterfront
Fireworks Extravaganza beginning at sunset. June 30th at 10pm
July 1st
5k Run and Walk and the 2K Youth Run July 1st at 6:45 a.m Registration at the Mary Winspear Centre: Canada Day begins with the Peninsula Track and Field 5k Run and Walk and the 2K Youth Run, starting at Bevan and Seventh Street.
Pancake Breakfast – 9am: Bulk up for a big day at the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast at the Mary Winspear Centre.
Sidney Canada Day Parade July 1st at 11am-12pm: The Thrifty Foods-sponsored Sidney Canada Day Parade begins at Beacon Avenue and Resthaven Drive. The parade continues along Beacon, then down Second Street to Ocean Avenue.
Family Fun Fair July 1st from 12pm – 4pm: Following the parade, check out the Family Fun Fair all afternoon in the field area at Tulista Park where you can participate in the Dog look-a-like contest, clowns, face painting, petting zoo and many more activities for all ages.
Build-a-Quick Boat Race July 1st at 4:45pm: Make sure to take a look at the construction of some unique boats taking place in Beacon Park during the day. Then make your way to the Sidney waterfront for the always entertaining Build-a-Quick Boat Race going at 4:45 p.m. Arrive early to find a good spot to watch this great event. The race is sponsored by Slegg Lumber in Sidney for the last 26 years.
As always, we can rely on Saanich Marine Rescue Society, Coast Guard Auxiliary Unit 36 to be on hand for ‘men overboard”.
